I'm Dr. Christopher Cheshire. I am the clinic director and owner of Cheshire Integrative Medicine. We're located in The Villages at 910 Old Camp Road, Suite 162. We've been in The Villages now for 21 years. We offer acupuncture, we do functional medicine, we do supplements and nutrition, we do shockwave therapy, we do laser therapy, we do microneedling, and we do peptides as well. Whether it's neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, we treat a lot of patients with pain so they can go out and do the things they want. Here we have many different modalities to treat you with, and then it's individualized. You know, not everybody gets the same treatment. It depends on what's going on with you. If you're looking to book an appointment, call us at 352-430-2720 for a free consultation.

What it addresses

The concerns patients bring in

Microneedling works by provoking a controlled repair response, which makes it useful anywhere the skin needs to rebuild rather than simply be resurfaced.

  1. 01

    Fine lines and early wrinkles

The lines around the eyes and mouth that appear as collagen thins. The change is gradual and looks like better skin rather than treated skin.

  2. 02

    Acne scarring and texture

One of the strongest applications. The treatment remodels the tissue in the scar itself rather than covering it. This typically requires a series.

  3. 03

    Enlarged pores and rough texture

Building collagen around each pore tightens the structure and refines the overall surface.

  4. 04

    Tone, dullness, and sun damage

Years of Florida sun show as uneven tone and lost luminosity. Clarity and evenness improve over a course of treatments.

  5. 05

    Crepey skin and lost firmness

Thin, loose texture on the neck, chest, and jaw. Microneedling thickens the dermis over time, where creams cannot reach.

  6. 06

    Décolletage and hands

The areas that reveal age most and get the least attention respond to the same collagen building process as the face.

What to expect

A typical session

  1. 01

    We prepare the skin

The area is cleansed and a numbing cream is applied so the treatment stays comfortable.

  2. 02

    The treatment itself

We move the device evenly across the area. Most patients feel light pressure and vibration. A full face takes a short time.

  3. 03

    A short recovery

Expect some redness, similar to a mild sunburn, for one to two days. You leave with clear aftercare instructions.

  4. 04

    Results build over a series

New collagen takes time to form, so results develop over weeks. A series produces the most noticeable change.

Recovery

What the days after look like

  1. Day one

Redness and mild warmth, like a moderate sunburn. Keep the skin clean and simple, and skip makeup.

  2. Day two

Most patients are comfortable in public. Keep skipping actives and retinoids for a couple of days.

  3. Day three

The redness has largely settled, sometimes with light flaking as the surface turns over.

  4. Months after

Collagen keeps remodeling, so the result at three months is better than the one at three weeks. Be disciplined about sun protection. In Florida it matters more than people expect.

We often finish with LED therapy right after treatment, which calms redness and noticeably shortens the visible recovery window. Have an event coming up? Schedule at least a week ahead of it.

How it compares

Where microneedling fits

Versus the roller you bought online
The difference is depth, precision, and sterility. Home rollers cannot reach the depth needed to trigger real collagen remodeling. Clinical microneedling uses controlled, adjustable depth in a sterile setting.
Versus ablative laser resurfacing
Ablative lasers remove the surface layer, with significant downtime and more risk in deeper skin tones. Microneedling leaves surrounding tissue intact, so recovery is measured in days rather than weeks and it is safer across skin types.
Versus chemical peels
Peels work chemically at the surface and are excellent for tone. Microneedling works mechanically at depth and is better for scarring and firmness. They are sometimes used in sequence.

Microneedling, answered

Does it hurt?

We apply a numbing cream first, so most patients are comfortable throughout. Most describe a vibrating or scratchy sensation rather than sharp pain. Bonier areas like the forehead and jawline are more noticeable than the cheeks.

How much downtime should I plan for?

Expect redness resembling a moderate sunburn for about a day. Most patients feel comfortable in public by day two and largely settled by day three, sometimes with light flaking. If you have an event, schedule at least a week ahead of it.

How many sessions will I need?

Most concerns need a series spaced several weeks apart, since collagen needs time to build between sessions. Acne scarring typically needs more sessions than fine lines or general tone. We give you a realistic number at your consultation rather than an open ended plan.

When will I see results?

Initial glow appears within a week or two as the surface turns over. The meaningful change in firmness and scarring builds over several weeks and continues with a series.

Is it covered by insurance?

Microneedling is a self pay service. We go over the details at your free consultation, before you commit to anything.

Is microneedling safe for darker skin tones?

Generally yes, and this is one of its advantages over ablative laser resurfacing. Because it does not rely on heat or removing the surface layer, the risk of pigment change is lower. We still assess your skin and history individually and adjust depth accordingly.
